I signed up for a merchant using a fake name/address. Someone bought something from me, then decided that ‘the product doesn’t fit the description’. I have since cancelled the bank account used with the merchant. However, the merchant tried to do a chargeback, and failed because the account is closed. Can the merchant find out my info that is associated with my checking account? Or can they just use my fake name/address I used when i signed up?
it’s not fraud. i had to sign up with fake info because i already had one account in my real name. i closed the bank account a long time ago, and this chargeback was just brought up. can the merchant find a way to find my real info? all they have is my account number/routing number.

Is it necessary to have a seperate merchant account for e commerce? When a sale is made online do you not receive an order with the customers information and CC number. Could the CC number be entered into your POS manually as an instore sale then shipped? I understand its a little more time consuming but I don’t expect to be receiving hundreds of internet sales daily.

What is a merchant account number exactly? I’m trying to enter a new payee in my online billing with my local bank. Is the merchant account number my credit card number?
