Which web-hosting is better for me?

I am planning to open a small online store carrying less than 10 items and I only want simple interface as I’m a beginner. So, now I’m down to two options, InMotion hosting and GoDaddy hosting. Let me explain.

InMotion hosting has business class (Power) plan for only $8.95 and include osCommerce and ZenCart and unlimited data transfer.

Godaddy hosting has regular hosting (Delux) plan for $6.99 which also has osCommerce and ZenCart but data transfer of 1500 GB.

I want to know what is the difference between the two.
*also note the fact that, when hosting companies say UNLIMITED there is a condition, they say ‘blah blah this is for small business and if exceeded it will not work such n such n such’ so, it’s still the same.

To me, GoDaddy is a well known brand and it maybe be very EVERYWHERE but it has some credentials. InMotion doesn’t seem to have that for me. So, I don’t know if I should trust InMotion. Anybody who has opened an online store can tell me how you did it and what’s the best. Pros and Cons
ALSO, If I am to get GoDaddy, I’ll also get Volusion shopping cart software for $24.99 a month with no contract for 25 products. Are there any cart that’s better and DO I EVEN REALLY NEED A SHOPPING CART SOFTWARE LIKE THIS?

Thanks so much in advance. xxoo

  1. chances are youll never reach the 1500 gig limit thats ENOURMOUS

    go with godaddy

  2. the 1500 gb limmit is huge, i doubt youll ever ever use 1/10th of that. ive never heard of the other one, but GoDaddy will offer better support, and more features, plus its cheaper.
also zen-cart.com free online shopping cart software.

  3. I use GoDaddy (and have for years) so I can’t comment on InMotion – except to say that “unlimited” always means “within reason”. If you start streaming videos, they’re going to hit you. But if you exceed 1500GB/month you’ll be making enough money that moving to a plan that costs another $100/month won’t mean anything to you.

That said, one of the reasons I stick with GoDaddy is tech support. They’re there, and they’re good. (Once they knew what I wanted before I told them anything but who I was.)

Do you need a shopping cart? Good question. Do you need air conditioning? (My daughter wouldn’t waste the money – it never gets warm enough for her to take her sweater off – and it can get into the igh 90s in the summer.) It depends on what you’re selling, how you want to sell it, what you want to do yourself (writing software or adapting a shopping cart [there are plenty available] to meet your needs). I’d say yes, but I wouldn’t go further until I knew a LOT more about what you’re doing.

InMotion may also be fine. I wouldn’t shop strictly by price/bandwidth, though. If they don’t give you anything more that you need (you don’t need 1500GB top start, and you can always buy more “plan” later without changing anything on your site), I’d go with GoDaddy.

  4. It all matter on what you want. You want a online store with that little bit then i would not go with go daddy. You don’t need to spend more money than you have to. Yes it has plenty of space and features but you want something simple and want to save some money. I have a site that will break it all down for you. Once you decide all you have to do is click and get started.

Thanks and i hope this helps

  5. Don’t use godaddy.
Refer to http://www.nodaddy.com to see why.

As an experienced webmaster I recommend BH web hosting which I’m sure it would work for you and fulfill all your requirements. They have a really great offer for hosting & I have used them for over 3 yrs now, and have never had a single problem with them.

You can reach reviews about this web hosting provider and its latest DISCOUNT COUPONS at:

  6. I suggest you this website http://www.tenhostingreviews.com where you can find a list of the Top 10 Web hosting companies with the best features, support and pricing. You can get everything you need and it’s very easy. Also, you can read user hosting reviews, Hope this could help you.

  7. If you just need an ecommerce site, pick a solution from http://bestecommercehosting.org. It can save you time and money as mentioned here at http://startonlinestore.org

If you really want to do things by yourself, InMotion is good. Highly rated here at http://webhostingcomparison.org

    Good luck.

  8. Unlimited space/unlimited bandwidth is a BIG LIE and stay away from hosts that offer such a plan. They are lying to trick customers to sign up with them. I don’t know your budget but if i was in your situation, i would go the following route -

    - Web Hosting Provider – http://www.chimehost.com
    - E-commerce script (free) – http://www.magentocommerce.com/
    - Domain / SSL – Around $40 per year

    Total Monthly cost – $4.95 / month

If you don’t know anything about setting things up like database, mysql ftp, you should sign up with volusion directly instead of going through godaddy – http://www.volusion.com/ecommerce/web-hosting.asp

  9. I am a web designer myself and I answer this type of question all the time.

First, DON’T go with Godaddy. just because they are a big name does not mean better service. In fact sometimes it just means that their hosting computers are busier. Their customer service is okay but if you select them you will NEED 24/7 customer service.

I am familiar with the hosting plans you are referring to and you can install Zen Cart EXACTLY the same way from almost ANY web host. 1-click install of Zen Cart is standard with 99% of all hosting plans.

By the way I have tried almost every free open source content management system in the world and I can tell you that Zen Cart is my favorite for ecommerce.

Most hosting packages today offer the same type of thing:
unlimited space, bandwidth, cpanel, databases, 1-click installs, email etc, etc

The one deciding factor for me is speed and server response. You can’t really tell by looking and this is very important because it can affect your google pagerank.
I recommend http://hostingpad.mestore.us – on special right now for $1.99
